Our Value Proposition: How We Can Assist You

Planning and Strategy

Kicking off a project should not be done lightly. Depending on the investment size (money, time, management effort, opportunity cost) and the extent of change it will drive, a structured process should be used to ensure that it is the right thing to do at the right time. Often, solution and process options exist and need to be explored first. Benefits need to be defined and have business ownership to ensure realisation is possible. A formal business case is required for anything significant. We have considerable experience in assisting with these activities.

Project Establishment

A project needs to be established with specific disciplines and measures of progress and quality. Clarity of roles and responsibilities is essential, and a ‘project rhythm’ needs to be set at both the project and work stream levels. A method for tracking costs against project deliverables is required, along with measurements such as earned value and estimate to complete. Commercial agreements with third parties may also be necessary. Issues and risk registers are typically used. We have extensive experience in this area and can propose models to assist and get started quickly.

Project Governance

A successful project hinges on collaboration between project personnel and the business. The governance model must reflect this by ensuring balanced representation on an agreed steering committee. While a structured format for status reporting is essential, the model should prioritize fostering a positive environment for discussion and decision-making rather than mere box-ticking. A decision matrix model often guides which issues are decided by the project team versus the steering committee (or higher).

Independent Input

There is often value in engaging an independent advisor who can provide a trusted, impartial perspective and instill confidence that all is proceeding well. Such an advisor can also help resolve any impasses that may arise. Typically, an advisor would be accountable to the steering committee and/or the overall business owner. We are well qualified to fulfill this role when needed. It may be required only for specific phases or stage gates, such as Go Live readiness, rather than for the entire project lifecycle.

Project Concerns

Managing projects can be challenging, and they don't always go smoothly. Sometimes, the parties directly involved struggle to resolve major issues on their own or may underestimate the severity of the situation. The key challenge lies in distinguishing between a project going through a difficult but correctable phase and one that is at significant risk, requiring management intervention to prevent further complications. We have the experience to offer independent, practical advice in such situations.
